U.S. Sportsbooks Report Big Wagers on Los Angeles Lakers

Punters with an eye of the NBA futures markets for the 2019 – 2020 NBA Championship will find the Los Angeles Clippers at the top of the table.

A quick look at a couple of Australian bookies found the Clippers quoted to win it all at $4.25, with the Los Angeles Lakers at $5.

The two clubs will meet in the opening day of the season. That market has the Lakers favoured by 3.5-points, so there is no lock bet for this game.

The sports books in the U.S. are reporting that they have been taking big bets on the Lakers to win the title.

William Hill reports that almost one third of the money in the market for the title has been placed on the Lakers. In LeBron, we trust?

That figure is almost three times higher than on the next club on the table, the Clippers.

It might be a smart punt to back both Los Angeles clubs, although when it comes to the best-of-seven Western Conference championship, if it comes to the Lakers versus the Clippers, good luck.

Jeff Sherman, the vice president of risk and head NBAS odds maker for a Las Vegas sportsbook, reported taking a $US 10,000 bet on the Lakers, even before the news that mega-star Anthony Davis was joining the team was made public.

On the other side of the country, punters in the eastern part of the U.S. have been backing the Philadelphia 76ers, but those eastern punters have not been ignoring the Lakers, with almost half the money wagered going to Philadelphia and the Lakers.

U.S. bettors contain more than a few homerun hitters swinging for the fences, putting money on the New York Knicks at 250 – 1 odds.

Correctly picking the winner of the NBA Championship is the rough equivalent of picking the winner of the Melbourne Cup, except that instead of 24 Thoroughbreds, there are 30 NBA clubs.

Last year NBA champions, the Toronto Raptors, saw an off-season exodus by key players and are ranked 12th in the championship futures market.
