We thought picking the winners for Round 6 of the Toyota AFL Premiership competition was going to be an easy one for punters and the fact that we got six of eight right serves as proof. It would have been seven of nine, but we got distracted and forgot to send our hypothetical money in for Richmond versus Melbourne.
Round 7 looks just as easy, easier perhaps, so here are our guesses, complete with the disclaimer that no one should bet based on our picks because we are bleeding money for the 2019 AFL season and even if we were not, we bet with play money.
We use $100 of fake money for our stake, just to keep the maths simple.
Collingwood meets Port at Docklands to get the round started. WE are taking the Pies in the hopes of making $132. Collingwood are Favoured by 21.5, but we do not bet point spreads.
It surprised us to see GWS favoured by 27.5, given the surprising results of the Saints, but we are taking the Giants in the chase for $125.
Melbourne versus Hawthorn at MCG is one we should skip. The 2.5-point favourtism towards the Hawks is coin-flip territory, so we will back the Demons using the uneducated guess strategy in the hopes of adding $200 to our bank.
Brisbane versus Sydney seems easy. The Lions have form and home ground, so we take Brisbane for a possible $140.
We will take Richmond over Western Bulldogs, even though the $1.30 quote is almost a horse race with Winx in it, for a possible return of $130.
West Coast almost has a bye week with Gold Coast touring. The Eagles will make $106 for us.
Carlton and North Melbourne is a run-for-your-life punt, but we will take the Blues and hope not to have the blues afterward. If we are right, $195 is ours.
Geelong is coming to MCG to meet Essendon. Lordy, the Bombers have a tough row. We take the Cats for a possible $147 gross dividend.
Adelaide is hosting Fremantle. The Dockers have hurt us when we backed them and when we bet against them. We fancy the Crows to fly directly to our wallets with $133.
